Ja-myung gives birth to the twins, Princess Ra-hee and Princess Yeon-hee (Soo Aun). Ja-myung's father, Crown Prince Jung-jae, is killed in battle, and Ja-myung is mortally wounded. Ra-hee, Yeon-hee, and Ja-myung are raised by a strange man, Ju-pung (Song Hyung-jin), who protects them from the outside world. When Ja-myung dies, her spirit enters and becomes Ra-hee's guardian spirit.
The drama also follows the later years of Queen Wang Ja-shil, the tyrannical mother of Ra-hee. Having hidden her true identity, she becomes a successful artist, and takes on the role of Ja-myung's stepmother. Ja-myung does not know about her sister's existence until late in her life, but she follows Ra-hee to Goguryeo, following the same path that Ra-hee did. Ja-myung and Hodong fall in love, and Ja-myung sacrifices herself for the sake of her country.
