'Ibn al-Khattab, Abu Zur'ah, Abu Zur'ah, Abu Mansur al-Baghdadi, Abu Ayyub, and Abu al-Su'ud al-Makhzumi, amongst the companions of the Prophet, al-Hasan bin Ali, al-Hasan bin al-Qasim, al-Hasan bin Ali bin Harith bin Hazim, and others, were the narrators of the narrators. They collected the narrations from the companions of the Prophet and some of the companions have copied and have transmitted the Sayings of the Prophet and the Rightly Guided Caliphs.
This book was composed by me so that people may understand the commentaries (and interpretation) of the different narrations and Ahkam, and the numerical review of the narrations on which the jurisprudence is based and which have been collected in the four books of Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim that is brought by the most knowledgeable companions and their imams, Abu Hurairah, Malik bin Anas, Abdullah Ibn Masoud, Abu Musa al-Ash'ari, Ibn Abi Shaybah, Muhammad bin al-Hasan bin al-Basri, Muqatil bin Hayyan bin Hazim, al-Hasan bin Qudamah, and Abu Mansur al-Baghdadi. From the sources that I have cited above, we can see that the books of al-Bukhari and Muslim have been compiled by the greatest scholar of Islam in the time of the Prophet Muhammad, and also there are some other specific sources for the compilation of each of the books. It seems that the books of al-Bukhari and Muslim have been collected and compiled in a certain condition as the books of other narrators, which means that the books of Bukhari and Muslim were compiled from the books of other narrators. In this condition, they were compiled by a group of great scholars and they are mutually complementary in their contents. It seems that the books of al-Bukhari and Muslim were compiled in several steps, as Ibn Qudamah says in Fath al-Bari Book of the Nikah:
