Generating a request code on a computer with an Internet connection works like this:
Select Activate in the menu bar to display the product activation wizard.
Select Activate to begin the activation process.
A request code is valid only for the hardware on which it's generated, and it's valid for a 90-day period. After 90 days, you'll need to generate a new request code to manually activate the software. The request code can be used only for the product that is being activated, and it must be used on a computer that is running Windows XP or later.
