Ram's mother, Labita, learns that Leela has lost her finger to the Rajadis, but swears that his family will not return any dowry until Leela returns. Leela visits a local healer and is told that she has been cursed with a transformation that will prevent her from ever getting married. She has also been cursed with an inability to sleep. This puts pressure on Leela, who has to work overtime to break the curse, so that she can return home for the wedding. After much deliberation, Leela resolves to stop wearing the ring, and Dhankor Baa's son, who lost his hand in an accident and needed a replacement, is able to restore her to health. On the eve of the wedding, Leela and Ram remain incommunicado, but he makes up for the absence by slipping her a note that she reads in a lumber yard. She learns that he is alive and sees him go off in a truck. This scene is played out in 21 official verses. Leela gives a signal to the secret police, who arrest Dhankor Baa, her husband, and Rasila her accomplice, and Leela is returned to Ram at the marriage reception. Leela is angry at the party for damaging her reputation in the eyes of the Rajadis and for cheating her in the dowry negotiations. She regains her engagement ring and then reveals her identity to Ram and Rasila, who now treat her well.
On their way to Paris for Ram's uncle's funeral, the family is stopped by the NRI, who offers to marry Leela and kick-start his own life. Leela agrees but Kamran is reinstated as the chief of the family and Ram is appointed the CEO of the Indian Oil Corporation. In Paris, Leela tries to resolve the matter without Ram's knowledge, but Dhankor Baa learns about it and confronts Leela. While the crowd threatens to tear her apart, Leela manages to convince the crowd to free her sister, who was caught in the crossfire of a club firefight. Leela, her sister, and the NRI return to India, where Leela departs for the US for her studies. On Leela's way, she is stopped by the police, who confiscate her identification. d2c66b5586
